In this fourth session of Occ-tober 2022 webinar series, join us in exploring where the voice of the worker and the science meet. The first part is about the dynamic relationships between workers’ personal health experiences, clinic-based disease/exposure investigations, and occupational health surveillance research. Our speakers will examine two Ontario-based case studies: (1) salivary gland cancer among plastics and rubber production workers and (2) neurodegenerative disease among mine workers exposed to McIntyre Powder. The second part addresses the occupational health journey of firefighter, and an increase in cancer diagnoses that activated firefighter unions to seek out experts in research, chemistry, and health.
Speakers include:
1. Jeavana Sritharan, PhD, Scientist, Occupational Cancer Research Centre (OCRC); Sarah Rhodes, PhD, Director (Projects), OHCOW; Paul Demers PhD, Janice Martell, Phd.
2. Steven Yannarell, International Association of Firefighters, Alexandra Long, PhD, Scientific Evaluator, Health Canada, Dr. Nathan DeBono, Scientist, International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)
