Part of the Occ/tober 2022 Webinar Series
Date: November 10, 2022
The first two segments in this webinar will discuss research in the field of toxic exposure to cytotoxin (sometimes known as antineoplastics) in the healthcare sector and consider frontline perspectives. The toxicity of these drugs present significant risks to those who handle them. Exposure can occur directly during preparation and treatment or through spills, contamination or waste handling.
The next segment will feature speakers from the Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre who have been leaders in the Healthy Nail Salon Workers Project. The initiative aims to reduce the negative health impacts of working in nail salons, and advocates for healthier working conditions for nail technicians. The importance of building partnerships between community-based public health and occupational health entities for maximum impact will be discussed.
Speakers include:
- Dr. Hugh Davies, School of Population and Public Health, University of British Columbia, Unifor Project, Long Term Care Cytotoxin Exposure Concerns
- Cate Ahrens and Jackie Liang, Central Toronto Community Health Centres.
