The purpose of this paper is to review COPD and etiologic factors that have been shown to be important to development of disease. COPD is a preventable disease. Understanding etiologic factors is necessary for reducing risk for disease and improving prognosis once COPD has been diagnosed. The impact of Interactions between occupational exposures and smoking on risk for disease will be examined.
