11th Annual RSI DAYPLUS 2010

The event this year was a success.  We would like to thank all of those who attended and the presenters for being part of our “Working in Extremes — Weathering RSI’s” seminar to demystify Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI’s).

There was also a slight name change of the event which included the addition of “+” behind the name of RSI Day.  The phrase RSI is a generic umbrella term used to describe an ache or pain anywhere in the body.  However, due to the name, people tend to focus only on upper limb disorders especially those related to computer work.  These injuries are also known as Cumulative Trauma Disorders and Musculoskeletal Disorders.  By adding “PLUS” to the name of the event it enables OHCOW to think outside the box and address other issues that can affect the health and safety of workers.

The event was attended by 246 people with 47 in the studio audience in Sudbury and 199 partaking via the internet all across Ontario as well as Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Georgia, Michigan, Massachusetts, Texas, Minnesota, Australia, Tasmania, Singapore, and Hong Kong.  All locations are denoted in red below.

Attendees ranged from government ministries, school boards, the mining sector, union officers, public service organizations, insurance companies, hotels, utility companies, public health, hospitals, nursing homes, universities, colleges, ergonomists, lumber sector, municipal and provincial governments, and transportation sectors.

Displays for public viewing were present from OHCOW, the Sudbury and District Health Unit, and WSIB.

The speakers for the event included:
